Running setup_server Fails

Environment

OS Level: AIX Version 4.1.5
Type/Model: c10

Problem

Server setup is failing while trying to create the NIM lppsource resource. The following error is returned when the setup_server script is run:

        0042-175: c_instspot: an unexpected result was returned by the
          /usr/sbin/installp command

There is usually a spot directory, but nothing has been added to the spot (the spot directory is empty).

Solution

This problem is sometimes caused by a missing file in the lpp_source directory: the bos file.

Create this file by running bffcreate against the CD-ROM and copying the files to disk for future installation. Then ftp a file from another NIM master (if possible); otherwise, restore that file from the install media.

Running setup_server again should work.
